Understanding HSL Colors

HSL color values are supported in all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera.

HSL stands for hue, saturation, and lightness.

HSL color syntax: hsl(hue, saturation, lightness)

Hue (0-360)

Hue is a degree on the color wheel. 0 is red, 120 is green, and 240 is blue.

Saturation (0-100%)

Saturation is a percentage value. 0% is a shade of gray and 100% is the full color.

Lightness (0-100%)

Lightness is also a percentage. 0% is black, 50% is the natural color, and 100% is white.

When you darken a color using this tool, it primarily reduces the lightness value while preserving the hue and saturation.
